Happy Father's day to every father and father figure following us.
Today I present to you all a challenge. If you have not yet donated, consider this: On August 20, the day after we conclude the ride for 2024 in Regina, Rob and I are celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary. I am so lucky to be married to a wonderful, thoughtful, conscientious man that to honour him, I am requesting donations be in a multiple of 30 (or 3, as your means allow). If you can give $30, fantastic! If $15, $60, $90, $210, WONDERFUL!!! For today, enjoy spending time with your father, remembering your father, or appreciating the person who took the place of your father and did an amazing job!

It has been an unusual week. Plans to get sponsorship letters out over the weekend last week was kiboshed by illness. So, today I am feeling back to myself, and raring to get those letters written (and the begging started). We, as always, are looking for sponsors. Considering that when we began this journey 4 years ago, prices on almost everything has gone up, if not doubled. This makes asking for sponsorship rather difficult because we need to ask for more money from the same number of people.
What we need sponsorships for is to help us with the costs of running the Ride and its associated expenses. We have 9+ days of camping, travel to Edmonton from our home in Manitoba, travel back home from Regina, food for each day (which includes high protein meals for Rob as he cycles), and incidentals as we promote our fundraiser. It is important to note that we do not submit expense receipts to Wounded Warriors for reimbursement. We feel that is contrary to what we are doing. This doesn't mean we are hesitant to continue with P1K, in fact, we know that it is needed more now than before. Compounding financial difficulties with mental health issues and we are seeing people suffering even more than before. So, if you or someone you know owns a business and would like to sponsor us for our ride this year, send us an email at [email protected] or send us a message at our Facebook link on the home page. Happy New Year to everyone!
It's the turn of the calendar and we need to get a move on. Routes won't plan themselves and fundraising doesn't happen magically! I spent this evening planning our route, getting frustrated, as usual, that campgrounds don't exist to suit our needs, we need to adjust. Sometimes radically! But believe me, watching Rob start his training is getting me excited for what this year will bring. First, we are inviting anyone that wants to join us to do just that! We are really encouraging people to come along for the adventure and do this amazing fundraiser for the people in our community that deserve it: our first responders and veterans. Happy Thanksgiving weekend Canadians!!
We have announced today our title and fundraising goal for 2024. Wild Roses and Living Skies is our title for 2024. Not only because we are going through Alberta and Saskatchewan, but because it encourages the simple things like appreciating the beauty in nature and the simplest of human attributes: KINDNESS. Kindness is something we can all accomplish even if we feel we can do nothing else. Our goal is a rather odd amount... $8756.58. Why such an obscure amount? Well, if we can reach that goal we, collectively, will have surpassed the $100,000 mark for Wounded Warriors Canada and the PTSD Support dog program. We can do it! You have helped us hit beyond that amount each of the previous years, so we can do it again! (but we want to get to that $18,000 to fund a dog...). Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts for every form of support you have given to us. We stand humbled. Well, another year is done for P1K and we have a final donation total. Thanks to you, the contributions to Wounded Warriors Canada was $37,845.83!! This is the total including donation matching. We remain speechless with your generosity.
This does mean, however, we have even higher hopes for next year... It is August 15th and we have made it to the halfway point!! We are in Carberry and ready to greet people at Callaghan's this evening! We have had such an amazing reception everywhere we have gone so far. And to top it off we have an anonymous donor who is matching contributions for this year up to a total of $50,000!!!
It's amazing and it means we can save even more lives!! But we are running behind and Callaghan's is waiting for us! Until next time. Rob and Marina We are so close to August! There is a lot to do yet, but at the same time it feels like a lot of HURRY UP AND WAIT. Very military.
We have been busy with training runs and getting the word out and planning Meet & Greets.... whew, so much work. But honestly, we wouldn't have it any other way. I hope you will join us and follow along with our ride come August 11. We can't do this without you! Marina Well, Rob is back home and back to work. He was only able to cycle to the base one day this week as he has a lot of administrative requirements of him this week and he needs to drive to get them done. However he said he feels REALLY good on the bike again. He lost some weight while on his two month tasking and he says he is more than ready to tackle training for the Prairie Thousand. It is starting to look like Spring in Western Manitoba and the cycling is just beginning!!
We are experiencing some variations in the weather lately. Every day it hovers around 0 degrees all I think of is Rob getting on his bike and starting his training regimen for P1K.
Currently he is on exercise support for work so he will have to start his training away from home. Soon enough, however, spring will be here and he'll be riding through puddles and starting his day at 6:30 AM on his bike! We have finally kicked off the P1K 2023 season with the WWC link up and running and new to us this year, we have purchased our domain name and website!
So much work to do! But I hope you will join us as we do another year of this craziness that has helped so many!!! Speaking of joining us... did you know that you can join us for a day, a few days or even the whole trip?? Just contact us, we will send you information and we will begin a chat! Hope you're ready for the ride! Marina |
AuthorBoth of us, Rob and Marina, will be submitting entries through the course of the preparation and, naturally, daily on the journey Archives
